The Lahaina Satellite DMVL office is expected to open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, due to the installation of technical upgrades, county officials announced.

Technicians from the county’s Information Technology division will be upgrading the data transmission capabilities of the office by installing high-speed fiber optic connectivity, the announcement said.

The system replaces a temporary internet connection that reportedly had a 15 megabyte per second limit on data transmission. The new rate is expected to “dramatically increase” transmission to 1 gigabyte per second.

The office, located at 335 Keawe Street, Suite 209, usually opens at 8 a.m. County officials say the office will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, barring any unforeseen problems.
