A weekend fire on Lānaʻi destroyed a structure and three vehicles before being brought under control, officials said.

The fire was first reported at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2013 on the corner of Jacaranda Street and Third Avenue on the Island of Lānaʻi.

When firefighters arrived they found over half of the structure fully involved, said Maui Fire Captain Bram DenHaan.

According to Capt. DenHaan, the owner had left the area 20 minutes prior to go to the store.

Bystanders told authorities that it appeared that the fire started near the vehicles and spread to the structure, according to fire officials, but the cause remains under investigation.

Crews responding to the scene included firefighters from Lānaʻi, who were assisted by an airport fire crew from Lānaʻi Airport who transported to the area by rescue helicopter and boat, authorities said.

In addition to the structure, there were three vehicles destroyed in the fire, including a new Hummer, said fire officials. Four other vehicles, authorities said, sustained major fire damage.

There were no injuries reported and monetary damages were unavailable at last report.
