Maui County Website Wins National “Best of Web” Award

The County of Maui website was recognized with a second place award in the County Portal category of the 2013 Best of the Web awards.

County officials say the award is the eighth national honor for the website, and the third year that the site was selected for an award from the BOW. In 2010, Maui County earned a fourth place finish, and in 2012, the Maui site was listed as a finalist, county officials said.

“The recent advances in the digital domain mean it is vital for government to provide effective online access to services and information,” said Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa in a press release.

“Many thanks to our IT personnel for making sure our county website runs smoothly, and to our departments for providing the content that our residents, businesses and visitors need and want. National recognition such as this BOW award provides valuable feedback,” said Mayor Arakawa.

The BOW awards, issued by the Center for Digital Government, “recognize city, county and state governments for outstanding portals and websites based on innovation, functionality, productivity and performance,” the agency website states.

Maui earned second place in the County Portal Category, behind first place, County of Alameda, in California. Others on the top five list included third place County of Orange in California, fourth place County of Sacramento in California, and fifth place Stearns County, Minn.
