No Advisories After Two 3+ Magnitude Hawaiʻi Earthquakes

Two 3+ magnitude earthquakes were reported within 15 minutes of each other in the Hawaiʻi Island area this morning.

The first preliminary magnitude 3.6 (later upgraded to a 3.7) earthquake was reported at 9 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013 about 3 miles south of Volcano, on Hawaiʻi Island, according to the USGS.

The quake occurred at a depth of 2.5 miles and was located 22 miles SW of Hawaiian Paradise Park; 25 miles SSW of Hilo; 52 miles ESE of Kailua-Kona; and 215 miles SE of Honolulu, Oʻahu, according to the USGS.

The second, preliminary magnitude 3.2 magnitude quake was reported at 9:13 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at a depth of about 7 miles, and located 44 miles W of Kalaoa, Hawaiʻi (or 68 miles S of Kīhei; and 73 miles S of Lahaina, Maui), according to the USGS.

There were no immediate advisories issued for either event.

This comes following a separate magnitude 3.5 earthquake reported at 8:36 a.m. HST on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, 11 miles south of Fern Acres on Hawaiʻi Island.
