The heavy rains over the weekend left parts of the road in East Maui washed out and impassible. Crews worked to repair the Kalepa Bridge yesterday, but mud and debris remains this morning and the area remains closed to motorists. The hazardous conditions are located between Kaupo and Kipahulu-with a nine mile stretch of road closed between mile markers 29 and 37. Motorist traveling to or from Hana should do so through the Hana Highway.
