MECO Hosts Free Seminar for Solar Installers and Inspectors

Maui Electric Company hosts a free seminar for local inspectors and installers of solar systems on Maui, on Friday, Nov. 22, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the company offices in Kahului.

The seminar, led by William “Bill” Brooks, principal engineer of Brooks Engineering, will cover the latest on industry-standard photovoltaic installation practice.

Brooks will review best practices for PV installation in the industry and the current National Electric Code, the regionally adoptable standard for the safe installation of electrical wiring and equipment in the US, the company announced.

“Maui has experienced amazing growth in rooftop solar installation in the past few years,” said Steve Rymsha, supervisor of renewable energy projects at Maui Electric in a company issued press release.

“As we continue to help more of our customers take advantage of solar power, we must do so safely and responsibly, and working closely with our solar contractors and inspectors is a key component. We are pleased to be able to offer this learning opportunity to our solar industry partners,” said Rymsha.

Spokespeople at Maui Electric say Brooks’ experience includes work as a registered professional mechanical and electrical engineer; service as a member of the California Office of the State Fire Marshal’s PV Task force;  and holder of a bachelor’s and master’s degree in mechanical engineering from North Carolina State University.
