Makena Beach and Golf Resort’s monthly wine education events are co-hosted by Executive Chef Marc McDowell and Master Sommelier Patrick Okubo, one of only two master sommeliers in Hawai‘i and the second youngest in the world.

On Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 6:30 p.m. enjoy three wines and three paired dishes for $40.

“It’s not just food, it’s not just wine… it’s education,” Okubo says. “Chef Marc demonstrates the preparation of at least one dish and sometimes even all three. Plus, you you can ask him questions as he’s teaching. It’s like a cooking show where you get to interact and taste the dishes as well.”

Tomorrow’s dishes and pairings start with Amarone risotto made with red wine and paired with Corte Giara Amarone 2009.

After that, savor a black pepper crushed crusted lamb chop paired with Peter Lehmann Shiraz Barossa 2010.

But wait! That’s not all!

The meal ends with a flourless chocolate cake with a raspberry reduction paired with Spellbound Petite Sirah 2012.

In addition to the demonstration, wine lesson and the food and wine itself, recipe cards for the three courses are provided.

Not too shabby.
