Gabbard to Discuss Program for Incarcerated Veterans on Maui

Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard will meet with University of Hawaiʻi Maui College Chancellor Clyde Sakamoto this weekend to discuss the creation of a program to assist incarcerated veterans.

The Maui stop is among a list of Hawaiʻi meetings planned by Gabbard over the next week to promote social justice and reduce recidivism, or re-offense rates in Hawaiʻi.

Gabbard’s schedule begins with a visit to Oʻahu on Wednesday, followed by Hawaiʻi Island on Thursday, Kauaʻi on Friday, and Maui on Saturday.

In addition to meetings with leaders and organizations, Rep. Gabbard will also tour various facilities and meet with youth and adults who have benefited from services offered to reduce the number of repeat offender cases.

In addition to the stop at UHMC, Rep. Gabbard will also meet with the owner of the Surfing Goat Dairy company to discuss the challenges faced by small businesses in the agriculture industry and how their work affects the local economy.

Her final stop will be a tour of the Tedeschi Vineyard and ʻUlupalakua Ranch to learn about day-to-day operations and discuss how the local agriculture businesses are valuable partners to the tourism industry.
