Warren Miller’s Latest Snow Sports Film to Screen for Free

The MACC’s free, outdoor “Starry Night Cinema” shows usually feature animated or claymation kid fare… not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Nonetheless, on Sunday, Jan. 12, you’re sure to shiver at least once as the latest flick projected on the big screen will be Warren Miller’s 64th ski and snowboard film “Ticket To Ride.”

The snow sports film “explores the close relationship between humans and the vast natural environment, and the importance of being aware of your surroundings, as the best skiers and snowboarders take an action-packed journey across the globe.”

The film follows athletes at their career best and follows the paths that led them to be taking on the world’s steepest peaks.

“Experience the immense energy of the world’s most sought-after, steep-peak destinations: Iceland’s Troll Peninsula, The Fjords of Greenland, The Alaskan Tordirllos, Montana’s Big Sky country, and more. The trams and trains in Switzerland climb to Mt. Eiger, the fishing boats in Norway float to Alesund, and the helicopters in Valdez soar above avalanche debris, all making viewers motivated and excited to discover their own ‘Ticket To Ride’.”

Filmmakers promise footage inspiring to both sexes: “look for world-class action sport athletes as diverse as the terrain, including World Cup champions and Olympians Seth Wescott, Ted Ligety and Julia Mancuso, plus legendary ski mountaineers like Chris Davenport, and free skiers Colby James West and Sean Pettit.

“Park & pipe veteran Gretchen Bleiler throws down in Aspen proving ‘girls can look like girls and still rip.’ An all-female cast of Jess McMillan, Julia Mancuso and Sierra Quitiquit explore the expansive terrain that is Iceland’s Troll Peninsula, and a snowboard segment in Valdez brings two legends, Seth Wescott and Rob Kingwill, together for a rowdy, big mountain adventure.”

The film starts at 6:30 p.m., but the A&B Amphitheater gates open at 5 p.m.

This is to allow you time to find a place to relax on the lawn and enjoy live music with Photonics, movie food and snacks for sale, and perhaps win one of the sport-themed door prizes.

Starry Night Cinema is an outdoor movie experience, so attendees are welcome to bring blankets, mats or beach chairs (with low backs only, please).

Food and liquor laws dictate that no coolers or outside food or beverages can be allowed into the amphitheater, but there will be affordable options for dinner, snacks and beverages offered by the MACC and various food vendors.
