2nd Weekend of Maui Open Studios Spans Wailuku to Hana

This Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 15 and 16, brings the second weekend – the middle child, if you will – of the annual Maui Open Studios event.

Maui Open Studios is an annual island-wide event consisting of three weekends of self-guided tours of local artist studios and exhibition spaces.

It’s like a bar crawl, only without bars or drunkenness or the resulting bad decisions and mornings after. (Editor’s note: Except that alcohol is served free at some locations. So coupled with expensive art, those outcomes are a real possibility.)

Artists will be on hand to perform live demonstrations and attendees can also anticipate refreshments and opportunities to purchase the art.

This weekend’s participants span from Wailuku to Haiku and the long, twisty distance out to Hana.

The artists and studios included in this weekend’s do–it-yourself tour include:

• Sean Singharaja Baba – Contemporary Landscape, Mixed Media and Muralist – in Wailuku.
• Sabado Studios – Oil paintings, watercolor, murals and Hawaiian carpets – in Wailuku.
• Shawn Boen – pen and ink – in Wailuku.
• Eric DeMaria – woodworker – in Wailuku.
• University of Hawaii Maui College Art Department – presenting visual art in all media – in Kahului.
• Ray Masters – fine artist and photographer – in Haiku.

A detailed listing of artists and studio addresses are available online or in the Maui Open Studios Guidebook, which can be procured at Kingwell Island Art Gallery in Lahaina, Wine Corner in Paia, Story of Hawaii Museum in the Queen K Center or Topaz Goldsmith and Gallery in Kihei.

The individual studios will be open from 11 a.m .to 6 p.m. each day. The event is free to the public.
