Molokaʻi State Forest Reserve Reopened to Vehicles

The state Department of Land and Natural Resources announced it has reopened the Molokaʻi State Forest Reserve to vehicle access.

The area was closed to vehicles two weeks ago, beginning on Feb. 4, due to unsafe conditions caused by heavy rain.

Crews from the Division of Forestry and Wildlife used heavy equipment to remove debris from the road and conduct resurfacing.

Authorities decided to reopen the area after site visits by Wildlife workers had confirmed good road conditions following last weekend’s rains.

The initial closure extended along the Maunahui access road from the hunters’ check station to the Makakupaia gate. During the closure, forest activities were still permitted including hunting and hiking.
