North Shore Surf Lowered to 10-15 Feet
By Wendy Osher
Surf along the north facing shores of Maui is diminishing today, prompting the cancellation of a high surf warning that was issued earlier by the National Weather Service.
The agency has since replaced that warning with an advisory, saying surf is expected to be in the 10 to 15 foot range today along the north facing shores of Maui and Molokaʻi, and 8 to 12 feet along the west facing shores of Molokaʻi.
Forecasters with the NWS say the advisory conditions will bring strong breaking waves, rip currents, and make swimming difficult and dangerous. The agency says ocean goers should heed the advice of ocean safety officials, and exercise caution.
The NWS forecast notes that the swell was generated by a strong low northwest of the islands.
