Azeka Pallet Fire Results in $600 Damage

A fire near behind Ace Hardware at the Azeka Shopping Center in Kīhei burned several pallets, brush, and six feet of fence line overnight, fire officials said.

The incident was reported at 3:11 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2014, at 1280 South Kīhei Road, and was brought under control by 3:16 a.m., according to department reports.

The fire involved approximately six stacks of pallets that were 5 to 10 pallets high, an area of brush, and burned through about 6 feet of a 20 foot long fence, according to Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.

Crews responding to the scene included Engine 6 out of Kīhei and Tanker 14 out of Wailea.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, Mainaga said.

Total damages were estimated at $600.
