Two principals from Maui County are part of a new leadership roundtable group designed to help shape educational priorities in the state.
John Costales of Kalama Intermediate on Maui, and Gary Davidson of Molokaʻi Middle School are among 26 individuals from across the state that were selected for the new Deputy Superintendent’s Principal Roundtable.
The group will work to improve communication, solicit feedback, develop solutions to critical challenges, and identify individuals for future leadership roles, according to a Department of Education announcement.
Members will also meet over the summer to establish priorities.
“As a former principal who knows firsthand about the challenges our principals face each day, we are committed to a thoughtful process of selecting school leaders for this Roundtable,” said Deputy Superintendent Ronn Nozoe in a DOE press release.
“We value their feedback and their dedication to their schools, communities as we continue to transform public education,” said Nozoe.
The 26 member group includes 14 principals from four islands, as well as all members of the Hawaiʻi Government Employees Association Unit 6 Board of Directors.
