30th Fire Recruit Class to Undergo Probationary Evaluation

The County of Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety will be conducting a probationary evaluation for members of the 30th Fire Recruit Class who graduated on December 20, 2013, department officials announced today.

Over a two week period beginning today, recruits will be tested on firefighting skills, as well as apparatus pumping and driving.

The purpose of the evaluation, officials say, is to “assure that recruits have retained the skills and knowledge essential to perform the duties of a Maui County Firefighter.”

Since their graduation in December, recruits were placed on rotational assignments with fire stations across the county for “real time” experience in the field.  They are now wrapping up their third rotation, and are scheduled to return to the Training Division for completion of the probationary evaluation, officials said.

Upon successful completion of the evaluation, the recruits will be granted permanent full time firefighter status, said Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.
