Maui Firefighters Battle Stubborn Pāʻia Fire

UPDATE: 4 p.m. 6/20/14. The cane fire has been turned over to HC&S. Fire crews are leaving the scene. The revised estimate for the area involved is 270 acres.
UPDATE: 2:50 p.m. 6/22/13: Baldwin Avenue is now open, but Holomua Road between Hāna Hwy and Old Maui High School remains closed due to an uncontrolled cane fire. Crews remain on scene and continue to work to bring the fire under control, said Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga. On another note, there was a structure fire reported in the kitchen of a home in Haʻikū today. Fire investigators remain on scene assessing the damages.
UPDATE: 2:15 p.m. 6/22/14: Holomua Rd between Hāna Hwy and Old Maui High School is closed; also Baldwin Ave between Mahi Kō St and Pāʻia Mill is closed until further notice due to an uncontrolled cane fire.
ROAD CLOSURE: 12:20 p.m. 6/22/14: Road closed between Holomua Rd. at Hana Hwy. and the Old Maui High School due to a uncontrolled cane fire. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays.
