Cultural Demos this Weekend at Summit and Kīpahulu Districts
By Maui Now Staff
The public is invited to an ongoing series of cultural demonstrations happening this Saturday, Aug. 23, within both districts of Haleakalā National Park.
In the Kīpahulu District in East Maui, Piʻilani Lua will teach Native Hawaiian games and perform Native Hawaiian music between 1 and 3 p.m.
At the Headquarters Visitor Center in the Summit District of Haleakalā, Gordean Kakalia will demonstrate sennit weaving from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The activities are part of the park’s Hana Noʻeau summer program, which launched in June, and continues through the end of this month.
The program features instruction from area residents under a partnership funded by the non-profit Hawaiʻi Pacific Parks Association.
