Body of Missing Maui Man Found in Kaupō

By Wendy Osher The body of a missing Maui man was located on Thursday night in a remote area of Kaupō, according to information released today by the Maui Police Department.

Sean Okin, 47, was reported missing on Tuesday, Aug. 26, after he posted a disturbing online message via social media, according to family members.

Maui police Lt. William Juan confirmed a report of the finding today saying Okin’s body was discovered at around 5:21 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, in an area of Kaupō near the site often referred to “Plenty Kiawe.”

The case remains under investigation and cause of death is pending autopsy results. Witnesses said Okin was last seen Monday night in the Kīhei area.

Okin’s brother, Ben reportedly informed the Maui Search and Rescue organization of the finding this morning saying, the discovery was made by a park ranger.

In the message, Sean’s brother Ben thanked those who offered support and help in trying to find him. “We will let people know if and when there are any public services. Please allow some time for family to grieve. Please allow yourselves time to grieve and remember him for the great light he was while he was with us on Earth,” said Ben in a message to Jeff Simon, founder of the newly formed Maui Search and Rescue group.
