Bailey House Museum Hosts Mapping of Hawaiʻi Exhibition, Part II

The Bailey House Museum presents the second part of a Mapping of Hawaiʻi exhibition, open Sept. 22 to 27 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily.

The exhibition combines history, geography, cartography, and historical artifacts of the Hawaiian Islands to create an educational and entertaining experience.

Organizers say the pieces cover the “daring exploits” of Polynesian navigators, maps made by early explorers, the Hawaiian monarchy, Hawaiʻi’s territorial days, World War II, and statehood.

Rare restored maps of early Lahaina Town will also be on display.

Selected map prints will be available for sale in the Bailey House Museum gift shop during the event.

The Mapping of Hawaiʻi, Part II exhibition was created in partnership with Bryant Neal, Richard Mickelson, and The Story of Hawaiʻi Museum.

The facility is offering free admission on Saturday, Sept. 27 only, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. as part of a special “Museum Day Live” program. During the promotion, anyone who presents a “Museum Day Live” ticket will be admitted free of charge in the spirit of the Smithsonian Museums, which offer free admission every day.  Tickets can be obtained by visiting  the Smithsonian website.
