New Hunting Rules Proposed for Game Mammals, Birds
By Maui Now Staff
The sate Board of Land and Natural Resources will consider approval of new rules proposed for hunting of game mammals and game birds.
The proposed changes consist of updating public hunting areas, bag limits, open hunting periods, safety zones, exhibits, and conditions and restrictions; clarifying definitions; clarifying rules related to hunting on private land; allowing the board to issue permits and temporarily close hunting areas; and setting a fee schedule for licenses, stamps, and tags.
The draft rules can be accessed online or may be reviewed at any branch office.
The item comes up for approval on Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, and the public will have one final chance to provide input before then by submitting testimony in the following ways:
- Written testimony: must be received in advance of the Oct. 24 meeting for board consideration prior to decision-making. The public can submit written testimony via fax at: (808) 587-0390, Attn. to Board Members; or via email to [email protected].
- Oral testimony: participants are asked to provide a written summary of their testimony before the board to present oral testimony, and may then present their oral testimony at the Land Board meeting.
Public hearings on the draft rules, hosted by the department’s Division of Forestry and Wildlife, were held in 2010 on Kauaʻi, Oʻahu, Molokaʻi, Maui, Lānaʻi, and Kona and Hilo.
