GIS Training Workshops for Teachers and Students
By Maui Now Staff
In celebration of global GIS Day, Maui Economic Development Board’s Women in Technology program is providing free training in Geographic Information System mapping for students and teachers on Maui.
Today’s (Monday, Nov. 24, 2014) session for teachers runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at ʻĪao Intermediate School.
A separate session for students will be held tomorrow, Nov. 25, at the same time and location.
Instructors will help participants to visualize and interpret geographic data, as well as relationships and patterns that can transform and improve communities.
Program representatives say the GIS technology can be integrated into practically every subject matter.
“For teachers especially, this software workshop will be invaluable to utilize and integrate geospatial technologies in the classroom – the true power is in the analysis of your data, and then making informed decisions for your community” said Isla Young, WIT STEM Program Director in an organization announcement. “A big mahalo to ESRI for facilitating this outstanding learning experience on each island at no charge to participants.”
Registration is required by visiting the Women in Technology Program online, emailing WIT Program Director Isla Young at isla@medb.org, or calling (808) 250-2888.
