Hawai‘i Health Systems Corporation Maui Region facilities, which include Maui Memorial Medical Center, Kula Hospital and Lāna‘i Community Hospital, are continuing partnership discussions with Hawai‘i Pacific Health. HHSC Maui Regional Chief Executive Officer Wesley Lo and Hawai‘i Pacific Health Ray Vara will hold a press conference Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at 9:30 a.m. at Lē‘ahi Hospital in Honolulu to formalize partnership talks.
HHSC Maui Region continues to suffer financial losses ending fiscal year 2014 with an operating loss of $43.3 million, with an additional projected $46.3 million loss during fiscal year 2015. A potential partnership between Hawai‘i Pacific Health and HHSC Maui Region could help keep the hospital operations and services running and provide future stability.
In an effort to help resolve the financial shortfalls that could cripple crucial services to area hospitals, HHSC Maui Region seeks to engage in formal talks with Hawai‘i Pacific Health. The two entities must seek legislative approval in order confirm partnership discussions and provide solutions. This action requires legislative remedy in order for both parties to make any official plans.
The meeting will be held at Lē‘ahi Hospital, NIS Conference Room (second floor), 3675 Kīlauea Ave., in Honolulu.
Free parking is available across the street at KCC at the corner of Makapu‘u Avenue and Kīlauea Avenue.
