Lahaina Art Society LahainaTown Action Committee juried poster contest

The LahainaTown Action Committee invites artists to enter its 27th annual juried poster contest.

Work will be judged for artistic merit, creativity, original concept, adherence to the design criteria and sale-ability as a poster.

All selected entries for the contest will be displayed in the Old Jail Gallery, Old Lahaina Courthouse during September.Those entries will also be eligible for other prizes and awards.

LahainaTown Action Committee will print a limited edition of 1,000 posters of the winning entry.

A reception for all participating artists will be held on Aug. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lahaina Arts Society’s Old Lahaina Jail Gallery, when winners will be announced and prizes will be awarded.

Design Criteria

The poster must depict a recognizable scene of the Lahaina area. (Subject matter of past posters has no bearing on the judges decision.)

Eligibility & Fees
Work must be original and unpublished. There is a $25 nonrefundable entry fee of per entry and a limit of two entries per artist.

Size
Images must not be less than 14 by 18 inches and not more than 3 by 4 feet. Photographs should be 16 by 20 inches. These dimensions will ensure a good quality graphic reproduction.

Preparation
All work must be framed and ready for hanging (using screw eyes and wire) upon check-in. Pieces that are incomplete (wet or not ready to hang) will not be accepted.

Artist’s Biography
Artists must submit a biography with along with their entry. Background information about the submitted piece, a personal art history, awards won, etc., will help to facilitate sale of the entry, if it accepted into the show.

Notice of Acceptance
If the submitted artwork is not accepted, the artist will be notified by phone on Monday, Aug. 3, 2015, and the work must be picked up by Tuesday, Aug. 4,  before 4 p.m.

Sales
All work must be for sale. The artist will receive 50% of the selling price of any work sold.

Entry Form
Complete and sign the Artist Agreement & Entry Form, which can be found online. Attach entry card to each piece. Include $25 for each entry. Make checks payable to “LahainaTown Action Committee.”

Local Submission Procedure
All entries must be delivered to the LahainaTown Action Committee office, upstairs in the Old Lahaina Courthouse, 648 Wharf St. in Lahaina, on July 31, 2015, between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Off-Island Submissions
Send via insured mail to:

Mailed entries must arrive between July. 27 and July 31, 2015. All entries must arrive fully insured and freight pre-paid. Complete Entry Form and Artist Agreement and include check.

Local Return of Entries
All work must be picked up at the LAS Old Jail Gallery on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Any work left after that date will be charged a $5-per-day storage fee.

Off-Island Return of Entries
All work will be returned to the artist COD, the week of Sept. 7, 2015. Work will be insured for the full selling price unless specified otherwise by the artist, in writing. Original packing must be reusable for the return trip.

Winning Entry
The winning art work will be retained by LahainaTown Action Committee until final poster proof is received–usually by December.

Liability
All entries are submitted at the owner’s risk. Neither the Lahaina Arts Society nor the LahainaTown Action Committee will assume responsibility for loss of or damage to works submitted.
