Alexander Academy to Bring ‘Cinderella’ to Seabury Hall
By Maui Now Staff
The Alexander Academy Performing Company will perform Prokofiev’s “Cinderella” at Seabury Hall’s ʻAʻaliʻikuhonua Creative Arts Center on June 6 and 7, 2015. Three performances throughout the weekend will showcase the talent and skill of over 150 student dancers from ages three to adult.
Show times are Saturday at 2 and 6 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m.
Cinderella will open with select contemporary, hip hop and jazz pieces choreographed by the Alexander Academy.
“We are known for our strong ballet department, but we have proven our versatility with exciting contemporary and jazz works as well,” said Alexander Academy Executive Director Danelle Watson. “Our productions exhibit the variety of dance styles taught at the academy, which have been very successful and esteemed by our Maui audiences.”
The academy is excited to welcome back professional dancer Nathaniel Hunt.
“He will join the AAPC cast as our prince again,” said Watson. “We are extremely excited to provide our advanced dancers with the opportunity to partner with a male lead onstage and have our soloist dancers perform exciting character parts including the stepsisters, the fairy godmother and solo fairy roles while our corps de ballet perform a beautiful waltz.”
Hunt graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from Long Island University-Brooklyn. He has studied at the Ailey School, Earl Mosley’s Institute for the Arts, and the Joffrey Ballet School. Hunt is presently dancing with Alvin Ailey II Company.
“We strive for a professional experience for all our students, and it shows with the quality of our annual productions,” said Watson.
