Water Department representatives say the Wellhead Protection Project was initiated to protect the wells that supply drinking water to the community.

Land areas that could contribute water and pollutants to the water supply have been delineated, or mapped as Wellhead Protection Areas.

Water representatives note that if pollutants are spilled or discharged in these areas, they could filter through the soil to the groundwater and be drawn into a drinking water well.
