High Winds Blamed for Kaluakoʻi Power Outage on Molokaʻi

An estimated 309 customers lost power in the Kaluakoʻi area of Molokaʻi early this morning when strong wind gusts caused a outage, Maui Electric company officials said.

Maui Electric company’s Shayna Decker said the outage occurred when a “swing short” occurred along the Maunaloa Highway, when two overhead lines made contact with each other.

The incident was first reported at 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2015; and all power was restored by 9:15 a.m.

Following restoration of power, crews remained on scene for the completion of repairs to damaged lines.
