Pukalani Man Dies in Kahekili Motorcycle Crash

A 25-year-old Pukalani man suffered fatal injuries in a motorcycle accident reported early Sunday morning on the Kahekili Highway on Maui.

Police have since identified the man as Chevis Pacheco Carlos.

According to a preliminary police investigation, Carlos was operating a white 2006 Kawasaki ZX-6R motorcycle and traveling south on the Kahekili Highway when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, crossed left of center and collided into a guardrail located on the east shoulder.

Police say Carlos was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident was reported at 1:47 a.m. on Sunday, May 10, 2015, about a 10th of a mile south of Puʻuohala Road on the Kahekili Highway in Wailuku.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

This was the fourth fatal traffic incident on Maui County roads so far this year compared to 11 at the same time last year.
