Ask the Mayor: Should Marijuana Dispensaries Register with the County?
Mayor Alan Arakawa answers some of the most-asked questions submitted to his office staff.
Aloha Mayor:
Q: Does a marijuana dispensary need to be registered with the county?
A: No, the county is not involved. Hawaiʻi’s “Medical Use of Marijuana” program is administered by the state Department of Health. Thus, DOH is the authority that issues and enforces the dispensary law. You can visit the DOH website to read more about the medical marijuana program.
