Maui’s Flecha Tovar Crowned Ms. Hawaiʻi America 2015

Flecha Tovar of Kīhei, Maui, won the State Title of Ms. Hawaiʻi America 2015 over the Memorial Day weekend and advances to compete for the national Ms. America title on August 29, 2015 in Brea, California.

She was one of two Mauian’s who brought home pageant titles over the Memorial Day weekend.

Fellow Valley Isle resident, Caroline Absalom won the title of Mrs. Hawai’i over the same weekend, and advances to the Mrs. America pageant in Sevastopol, Russia on Sept. 26, 2015.

Tovar’s title was won during an evening pageant at the Blaisdell Center on Oʻahu, Hawaii, on May 31, 2015.

The Mission of Ms. Hawaiʻi America is to celebrate the accomplishments of women, encourage women to be involved in community services, and use the crown to make a difference.

In addition to the empowering women, the competition provides a platform to speak about an issue that is vitally important to each contestant.

Upon winning her crown Tovar said she plans to raise the issue of foster children awareness, child abuse and to help educate the public on this often difficult subject. “I want thank the judges for their confidence in me and I also want to acknowledge all the very talented and beautiful women who competed in the pageant,” said Tovar in a post event press release.

Before moving to Maui with her family, Tovar lived in Marin County, California and attended Novato High School. She is the mother of two children, a daughter Kora and a son Shane.

The Ms. America Pageant is open to women 26 years of age and up, who are single, divorced or married. The selection process for receiving a title included the submission of an application, photo and followed up with a telephone interview. Titleholders from across the US will compete in Sports Wear, Evening Gown and On-Stage Interview at the Ms. America final in Brea, CA in August.

The Ms. America Pageant is a registered federal trademark with the USPTP in Washington DC since February 2000.
