The Salvation Army Observes LEON Day

The Salvation Army celebrates LEON Day (that’s NOEL spelled backwards).

The day was created as a reminder of the community’s needs for services and programs year-round, and not just during the holidays.

The organization will be observing the day with red kettles and bell ringers outside the Kahului Walmart and Maui Mall Longs from approximately 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, Thursday,  June 25, 2015.

Maj. John Chamness, Divisional Leader of The Salvation Army of Hawaiʻi said, “The Salvation Army served more than 117,000 last year in islands with our community outreach and programs. We encourage everyone in Hawaiʻi to help us fill our red kettles and support their local community on LEON Day.”

The Salvation Army of Hawaiʻi offers a wide variety of programs throughout the islands including: adult day health services; affordable senior housing; at-risk youth services and housing; camp & conference center; family stores; food distribution and feeding programs; homeless services; The Kroc Center – Hawaiʻi’s largest community center; preschools & day care services; social services – emergency assistance; substance abuse treatment; and work therapy & rehabilitation services.
