4-year-old Boy Dies, Struck by Vehicle in Kāʻanapali

A four-year-old Maui boy died after suffering injuries in a motor vehicle crash in Kāʻanapali this morning, police said.
The incident was reported at 7:56 a.m. on Tuesday July 21, 2015 fronting 133 Hakui Loop in Kāʻanapali.
According to police reports, the crash occurred when a maroon Toyota Sienna, that was traveling north on Hakui Street, struck the boy who was within the roadway.
As a result of being struck, the boy suffered life threatening injuries and was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center Emergency Room in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries and died, according to Maui police.
Police say the boy was a Kāʻanapali resident.
The 46-year-old Kāʻanapali woman driving the Sienna, was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash and did not report any injuries, according to department reports. Police say the Sienna did not appear to have any damages resulting from the crash.
According to a police report, the involvement of speed, alcohol, and drug impairment do not appear to be factors in this crash; however, they remain under investigation.
This was Maui County’s 14th traffic fatality for 2015, compared to 14 at this same time last year.
