Ms. Hawaiʻi America 2015 Receives Maui Council Resolution

Ms. Hawaiʻi America Flecha Tovar of Kīhei, Maui received a resolution from the Maui County Council on Friday congratulating her on her victory at the Ms. Hawaiʻi America pageant held in June on Oʻahu.

Tovar now advances to the national event where she will represent Hawaiʻi in her bid for the title of Ms. America 2015, which will take place in Brea, California on Aug. 29.

Tovar said she intends to use the Ms. Hawaiʻi crown to discuss the issue of foster care and child neglect and abuse. “These children are precious and I want to speak out in their behalf,” said Tovar.

The Mission of the Ms. America pageant is to celebrate the accomplishments of women, encourage women to be involved in community services, as well as use the crown for a Purpose to make a difference. The competition also provides a platform to speak about an issue that is vitally important.

The Ms. America Pageant is open to women 26 years of age and up, who are single, divorced or married. The selection process for receiving a title includes submitting an application and photo, and is followed up by a telephone interview.

Title holders from across the US will compete in Sports Wear, Evening Gown and On-Stage Interview divisions at the Ms. America final this month.
