UDPATE: Service Restored to Maui County Phone Lines

UPDATE: 1:30 p.m.

Hawaiian Telcom has restored phone and Internet service to affected customers on Maui and the Big Island of Hawaiʻi.  Company representatives say technicians on Maui repaired damage to an aerial fiber-optic cable, restoring service by 12:30 p.m.

Customers who are still experiencing disruptions are asked to contact Hawaiian Telcom’s 24-Hour Customer Care Center at (808) 643-6111 or submit an Online Support Form via hawaiiantel.com/support.

Representatives at Hawaiian Telcom thanked customers for their patience and understanding.

Hawaiian Telcom is experiencing technical problems which have caused widespread phone services outages throughout Maui County and parts of the Big Island of Hawaiʻi.

As a result, all county facilities on all islands in Maui County are affected and users are unable to receive or make 7 or 10 digit phone calls. This affects outbound and inbound calls.

Hawaiian Telcom is working to restore phone service. In the meantime residents can still communicate via email and social media.

Representatives with Hawaiian Telcom say customers on Maui and the Big Island may be experiencing service disruptions to both their phone and internet service.

Company representatives say landline calls may be limited to on-island calls only. Some cell phone services may also be affected.

Maui police say that although some phone systems throughout Maui County are not working, 911 and the Maui Police Department’s Non-Emergency (808) 244-6400 are currently available for service.

Hawaiian Telcom technicians are currently investigating the cause.
