Acting coach and performer Dan Weisman, also known as Maui’s “Improv Man.”

If you’ve thought about getting into acting or on-camera work, here’s a chance to learn from a Hollywood professional.  Maui acting coach Dan Weisman, also know as Maui’s “Improv Man,” is holding two public workshops this month for kids, teens and adults.  The events will support The Maui Food Bank and Pro Arts Theatre in Kihei.

With film productions coming to Maui in the months ahead, Weisman says the timely training will teach students of all ages about auditioning and acting on camera. The workshops will run from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21 and Nov. 28 at Pro Arts Theatre in Kihei’s Azeka Makai Plaza, next to Taco Bell. Admission is $5, benefitting Pro Arts Theatre, and a can of food for Maui Food Bank.

Weisman, whose career spans 30 years, has been a longtime performer of original sketch comedy, stand-up and improvisational comedy.  He has performed on national television shows and taught more than 1,500 comedy workshops.  He’s also directed more than 600 live performances, and was recently honored as a Hall of Fame founding member and acting coach with the L.A. Connection Comedy Theatre. Weisman personally coached his daughter as a child commercial actress, who booked multiple national brand commercials, and at the age of seven, appeared on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

Weisman moved from Hollywood to Hawaiʻi in 2009, sharing his knowledge with hundreds of students at Seabury Hall, and adults at The Maui Film Studio and the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College.  He’ll be a featured speaker at Kamehameha High School for Career Day on Nov. 25.

He has expanded his coaching curriculum to include the skill sets people need for acting and auditioning on camera, saying, “You don’t get a second chance to make a good first impression!”

In the past year, Weisman’s actors have been booked on commercials and shows like Hawaii Five-0, Aloha Fuels, Leakmaster Roof Repair and a co-starring role opposite Denzel Washington in “The Equalizer.” Learn more and find contact information here.
