Maui “Zip for the Trees” Event Raises $8K for Children’s Charities

The Skyline Eco-Adventures zipline tour company raised more than $8,000 during its 5th annual “Zip for the Trees” fundraiser event held on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015, at the company’s Skyline Haleakalā zipline course.

All proceeds raised will support three Maui charities including: The Children’s Justice Center, the Hui Mālama Learning Center, and Maui Youth and Family Services.

Funds were raised by selling zipline tours at Skyline’s original course on the slopes of Haleakalā, including Maui’s only pendulum zipline reaching speeds of more than 45 miles per hour.

More than 450 people attended the fundraiser event, which also supports native reforestation on Skyline’s Haleakalā, Maui zipline course located on Haleakalā Ranch lands.

Skyline employees and volunteers planted more than 350 native trees including ʻaʻaliʻi, ʻōhiʻa and Koa along with removing invasive species in a large-scale effort to restore native forest land.

Those in attendance also enjoyed music from Paula Fuga, Mike Love, Kaena Elaban and Kalapana Kollars and the Kanekoa Band, as well as free pony rides for the kids.

Sponsors of the 2015 event included Haleakalā Ranch, Native Nursery, Plant-a-Wish, Kīhei Compost, Maui Coffee Roasters, Flat Bread Company and Maui Ponies.

Skyline Eco-Adventures was recently named among Hawaiʻi Business magazine’s 2015 Best Places to Work in Hawaiʻi for the seventh consecutive year. Skyline was also selected among more than 100,000 picks in HAWAIʻI Magazine’s third-annual Reader’s Choice Awards, earning top 2015 honors in three categories: No. 1 Zipline Company; No. 1 Zipline Course, Kāʻanapali, Maui; and No. 1 Land Activity/Adventure Tour Company.
