Officials at the Kīpahulu District of Haleakalā National Park say there will be very limited water available for drinking over the next two weeks while water pumps are replaced.

Visitors are advised to plan on bringing their own drinking water. Because the district restrooms will also be closed, portable toilets will be made available for the duration.

Park officials say that during 2015, numerous “catastrophic failures” in the district’s water system caused intermittent water unavailability.

The new pumps are one component of a series of repairs and equipment replacements to be implemented over the next two years and are designed to improve the water delivery system.
