The Flatbread Company in Pāʻia will host a fundraiser on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, to raise money for a playground for Puʻu Kukui Elementary School in Wailuku.

A portion of all pizza sales (both dine-in and take-out) between 5 and 9 p.m. on Jan. 12, will be donated to the Puʻu Kukui Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Student Association.

Having opened its doors in 2013, Puʻu Kukui Elementary School is Maui’s newest public elementary school.

Organizers say the school has a large field but lacks play options for students.

“Right now, there’s not much for the kids to do,” said Laurie Fujieda, co-president of the PTSA. “We have a huge field. There’s nothing on it. The kids just run around,” she said.

Puʻu Kukui Elementary School’s PTSA has raised about $38,000 to date, for the school’s new playground; however, the school needs to raise an additional $25,000 in order to make the dreams of a playground a reality.
