Governor David Ige has released $75,000 for construction to provide traffic mitigation improvements on Piʻilani Highway at Ohukai Road on Maui.  The projected cost for the traffic operational improvements for the state is $822,550 and for the federal government is $1,524,000.

Additionally $775,000 has been released for a shoreline improvement project and protection improvements for Honoapiʻilani Highway in the vicinity of Olawalu.  The estimated price tag for the total project is $4,695,000 with $1,595,000 coming from the state and $3,100,000 coming from the federal government.  The project is estimated to be completed by January 2017.

Maui Representative Angus McKelvey (District 10 West Maui, Māʻalaea, North Kīhei) who worked to secure the funds said, “I am pleased to get these efforts for the North Kīhei residents.  Improvements were definitely necessary in the area near Ohukai Road where the traffic can be problematic especially during rush hour.”
