Ask the Mayor: Can I Drive a Jeep With No Windshield?
Mayor Alan Arakawa answers some of the most-asked questions submitted to his office staff.
Aloha Mayor,
Q: Is it legal to drive my jeep without the windshield on it, or with the windshield folded down? From the factory, the windshield folds flat onto the hood, and is removable, as are the doors. Mahalo!
A: According to the Maui Police Department, if the equipment to allow the windshield to fold down is factory-installed, the operator is required to have eye protection. Doors can be removed; however, rear view mirrors are required, so if the mirrors are attached to the door, then the door cannot be taken off. If the mirror is attached to the body of the vehicle, then it is fine to remove the doors.
