The public is invited to attend the grand opening of the first phase of the Central Maui Regional Sports Complex this Saturday, March 12, 2016.
To kick off the grand opening, there will be a 2016 Maui Girls Softball Association season opener starting at 8 a.m., followed by official opening ceremonies at 10 a.m.
The park is located at the end of South Kamehameha Avenue, just past Pōmaikaʻi Elementary School. The completed first phase of the complex is 24 acres and features a multipurpose field, two regulation softball fields, two comfort stations, a concession stand, and 200 parking stalls.
The State Department of Land and Natural Resources State Parks and Engineering Division acted as the project managing agency.
When the park opens on Saturday, the State will officially turn over its management and operations to the Maui County Department of Parks & Recreation.
“This park is the result of a great partnership between the county and the state, guided by the vision of our Lt. Governor, Shan Tsutsui,” said Mayor Alan Arakawa in a statement today. “Mahalo to the state for all their support. I know our growing Maui County community will make great use of this park for generations to come.”
Once open, the regular park hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week.
