Maui Orchid Society Contest Yields New Tagline
The nonprofit Maui Orchid Society is celebrating its 75th anniversary and sponsored a tagline contest among its membership, which has increased to 143 with the recent addition of 44 members.
Over 30 entries were submitted from nine different members, including Henrietta Chong, Andy Fulmer, Melissa Morishita, Lynnzee Talley, Betty Olson Evenson, Darrell Tanaka, Maryetta Scuito, Blossom Kawahara and Louise Rockett.
The winning entry, “Maui Orchid Society, where flowers and fellowship blossom,” was submitted by Scuito.
The runner-up entry, “Maui Orchid Society, we grow ’em and show ’em,” was crafted by Talley.
“Congratulations and thank you, Maryetta,”said President Jan Porter. “We now have a slogan for the next 75 years.”
President Porter invited the public to attend the group’s next monthly general membership meeting on April 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wailuku Community Center to learn more about the society and how to grow orchids.
“You don’t have to be a member to come to the meetings, but there are perks associated with joining, like the opportunity to visit commercial orchid farms on Maui and other islands,” said Porter.
Annual membership dues are $15; free for seniors over 80.
