October Event at Epic “Jaws House”
Mālama Family Recovery Center presents Big Waves, Big Dreams on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m.: a private unveiling of artists’ creations at the epic ‘Jaws House’ property formerly owned by famed waterman and big-wave surfer Laird Hamilton in Haʻikū-Paʻuwela.
Attendees will soak in the lush tropical views, jam to live music, dine on island cuisine from Three’s Catering and see which artist’s entry wins the top prize, all while supporting Maui nonprofit Mālama Family Recovery Center. Organizers say the center provides caring, holistic substance abuse treatment to women and children so families can live safe, independent and healthy lives.
The art contest is open to all Maui residents and submissions will reflect the artist’s 2D or 3D personal interpretation of the ‘Big Waves, Big Dreams’ theme. Jewelry submissions are also welcome.
Organizers say Mālama is Maui’s only women-specific substance abuse/addiction treatment center and the only place on the island where young children and infants can live with their mothers in therapeutic and sober living settings.
“This event will support our Early Learning Center, which provides free childcare, developmental screenings and parenting training, as well as our BabySAFE (Substance Abuse Free Environment) Program, which ensures at-risk pregnant women can access treatment, prenatal care and case management so they can give birth to healthy babies,” said Dr. Lisa Ponichtera, Malama’s Clinical Director.
Big Waves, Big Dreams is sponsored by The Will Smith Foundation, First Hawaiian Bank, BY DESIGN Builders, Maui Cleaning Care, Focal Point Coaching, Greater Than Advertising, Maui’s Best Massage and Pure Digital Maui. Tickets are $125 each and only 100 are available for this exclusive event.
