Expanded Kula Villager Maui Bus Service to Begin Tuesday
Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016 the Maui Bus will expand the Kula Villager route #39. The announcement was made by Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa and Don Medeiros, Director of the County of Maui Department of Transportation, in an effort to address requests from the Upcountry community.
The route, which is currently operating on a 1-hour cycle, will be changed to a 1.5-hour cycle to accommodate expanded service into Hawaiian Homelands in Kēōkea and Kula Hospital. The expanded service will also include a circular route down Makawao Avenue, back to Pukalani.
The extended Kula Villager route will begin at 7:59 a.m. on Pukalani Street at the bus stop near the Hannibal Tavares Community Center, with the last bus departing at 7:59 p.m. The Kula Villager will also connect with the Upcountry Islander at Kulamalu every 1.5 hours beginning at 8:08 a.m.
The Wailuku Loop route #1 and Wailuku Reverse Loop route #2 will also experience minor changes in timing as the State Building/Wells Street bus stop will be added to the route.
The Kula Villager and Wailuku Loops bus schedule and maps will be posted on the County website; updated route information will be reflected online effective Monday, Sept. 26, 2016. Riders are able to track their bus in real-time and get arrival predictions using the TransLoc Rider app available on iOS and Android or online.
Maui Bus fares are $2 per boarding or $4 for a daily pass. Monthly passes are also available.
