No Public Access for Big-Wave Peʻahi Challenge
The public is advised that there is no public access available to the Peʻahi Challenge big wave competition being held Thursday, Nov.10, 2016 at the Peʻahi surf break also known as “Jaws.”
Event security will be controlling all vehicle and pedestrian access to the property and the public is asked to avoid the Hāna Highway area east of Pāʻia during the event, to reduce traffic congestion.
Event organizers say the cliff edges surrounding the break are private property and the event permits limit the number of personnel and vehicles in the area due to safety and environmental concerns.
Big wave fans can catch all the action live on the WorldSurfLeague.com webcast and on Oceanic Time Warner Cable in Hawaiʻi (check listing for channel) starting at 7:30 a.m. HST.
There are also five viewing parties on Maui at the venues noted below. Organizers say venues will have the contest streaming on big screen TVs and offer a place to enjoy the event in a festive, safe environment.
