Maui Jim Maui Classic Features 4 Games in 2 Days

Teams participating in the First Annual Maui Jim Maui Classic visited four elementary schools on Maui on Thursday to meet with, read to, and encourage the pursuit of higher education.

Basketball players and coaches from Oregon State, UNLV and BYU visited Puʻu Kukui Elementary, Pōmaikaʻi Elementary, Kīhei Elementary and Kamaliʻi Elementary School.

Idaho University was unable to attend Thursday’s community events due to a late flight schedule.  Dunk Champion Kenny Dobbs participated in a similar visit at Doris Todd Elementary School today.

The four college teams will compete in the two-day Maui Jim Maui Classic basketball tournament today and Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016 at the War Memorial Gym in Wailuku.  The event is hosted by Oregon State and organized by basketballMAUI.

Additionally, each day will conclude with a slam-dunk performance by 2011 Sprite LA Slam Dunk Champion, Kenny Dobbs. The public is invited to purchase $10 game-day passes online as well as view an up-to-date event schedule at the basketballMAUI website.

Past campers who wear their basketballMAUI t-shirt to the games today and tomorrow and get in for free.

“We want our campers to see what college basketball looks like,” event organizers said in an email communication.

The event also features food trucks and entertainment by NBC’s The Voice Finalist Biff Gore.

The tournament features two games per day: at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.

Friday will kick off with BYU vs UNLV followed by OSU vs Idaho University. Saturday’s first game is UNLV vs Idaho University followed by OSU vs BYU.
