Sione Latamai Manupuna, 74, of Kīhei, Maui, passed away on Nov. 27, 2016, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was born on Oct. 8, 1942, in Niuafoo’u, Tonga.

Visitation will be held from 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9, 2016, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, continuing overnight. Mass will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, 22016, at St. Theresa Catholic Church; burial will follow, 11:30 a.m., at Valley Isle Memorial Park Cemetery in Haʻikū.

Sione was a Houseman at Maui Hill Resort. He is survived by his sons, Lakalaka (Odetta) Manupuna, Lafaele (Yvonne) Manupuna; daughters, Ana (Lemani) Vena, Makalita (Loma) Falekaono, Mele Manupuna – deceased; brothers, Lafaele (Holeva) Manupuna, Penisimani (Malia) Lakalaka, Leopino (Meleana) Lakalaka, Isitolo ( Tupe ) Lakalaka; sister, Makalita (Hatimu – deceased) Letisi; grandchildren, Joshua Sione Manupuna, Jessica Ana Manupuna, Patelesio Nikola Vena, Jamiee Alakoka-Halatetefa Manupuna, Atu Loma Falekaono, Lafaele Elijah Falekaono, Ofa-He-Lotu Falekaono, Katalina Falekaono, Amanaia Manupuna, Aisea Suka Manupuna; and great grandchildren, Nathaniel Vena and Eziekiel Latamai Vena.Online condolences: www.ballardfamilymortuaries.com

Elizabeth “Beth” Woolsey-Lee Daniels, 76, of Kula, Maui, passed away on Nov. 22, 2016, under the care of her loving family and Hospice Maui. She was born on Feb. 6, 1940, in Wailuku, Maui.

Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, at St. Anthony Church in Wailuku; mass will begin at 11 a.m. and burial will follow at 1 p.m., at the Maui Veteran’s Cemetery in Makawao.

Mrs. Daniels retired after 23 years of dedicated service as a teacher with Kahului Elementary School. Beth is also remembered as an active member in our community who devoted much of her time in faith to the Holy Ghost Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Dean Daniels; son, Ronald Kalani Daniels (Emma), daughter, Jennifer “Jenny” Daniels (Wilfredo “Chris” Christie); sisters, Milvirde Woolsey-Lee Franks, Mary Jean Woolsey-Lee Gose; and grandchild, Austin Daniels.

She is predeceased by her parents Samuel Woolsey-Lee and Ludie Baptiste Woolsey-Lee.

Betty Lou Texeira
March 9, 1947 – November 21, 2016

Betty Lou Texeira, 69, of Wailuku, Maui, passed away on Nov. 21, 2016, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. She was born on March 9, 1947 on Maui.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016, at Norman’s Mortuary; prayer service will begin at 7:30 p.m.; cremation will follow. The family requests no flowers.

Betty retired from Ka Hale A Ke Ola Resource Center. She is survived by her sons, Rodney Texeira, Scott (Traci) Texeira; brothers, Leslie Pagan, Ralph Pagan; sisters, Linda Saranillo, Jane (Ruben) Ortiz, Kathleen (Gilbert) Sandoval, Agnes Carvalho, Rose (Sita) Pagan; and grandchildren, Jaden Texeira and Kolten Texeira.

Benjamin Gerhardt Herigstad
October 8, 1932 – November 19, 2016

Benjamin Gehardt Herigstad 84, passed away on Nov. 19, 2016, at Hale Makua, Kahului, Maui. He was born on Oct. 8, 1932 in Copperstown, North Dakota.

He grew up in Bremerton, Washington area. His first wife Patty, second wife Midori and two children, Darlene & Darrel, brothers Ozzie, Oris, and George, and sister, Joyce preceded him in death. His longtime partner, Julie; sister, Inez Carpenter; brother, Russell Herigstad; and a host of nieces and nephews remain.

He served in the US Army. He graduated from Kitsap County High School and Edison Radio and Television School in Seattle, Washington before launching his career with ABC Television Network as an engineer for 35 years.

He retired for several years in Ventura, California and he moved to Maui with Julie in 2009. He loved to travel, golf, spending time with family and friends and taking walks on the beaches. He attended Calvary Chapel.

Family and Friends are invited to attend a short service at the Maui Veterans Cemetery in Makawao on Friday, Dec. 2, 2016 at 11 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Calvary Chapel Central Maui.

The family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation to the East Wing Nurses & Staff at the Hale Makua Care Center and Hospice Maui for the care and support in his final days.

Robert Dempsey

Robert Dempsey
May 19, 1973 – November 20, 2016

Robert Lawrence Dempsey, 43, of Kailua Kona, Hawaiʻi, was born in Lakewood, California on May 19, 1973, and passed away on Nov. 20, 2016 in Kealakekua, Hawaiʻi. Robert was preceded by his brother Mark unto the Lord. Robert was a mechanic and welder with Cyanotech.

He is survived by spouse Gayla; son Robert Dempsey Jr. & daughter Taylor Dempsey of Kailua Kona. Roberts’s parents are Robert and Chung-Cha Dempsey of Kailua Kona. Services may be scheduled at a later date. Donations may be made to American Heart Association.
