Dear Mayor Arakawa,

Q: I know this subject has been addressed by you in previous responses but some of us local residents are wondering when the road below Fukushima Store will reopen? Also, when will the lower part of Kauhikoa Road get the potholes filled, as you mentioned last January?

The congestion and deteriorating pavement leads to many close calls by passing cars and trucks avoiding the deep potholes and each other!

A: The project closing the road below Fukushima Store will be completed in the early part of next year, hopefully around February. The completion date is pending weather delays—and unfortunately, we have had a lot of rain in recent months—as well as the East Maui Irrigation water release schedule.
