Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident on Molokaʻi

A motor vehicle accident occurred on Kaula Road in Kaluakoi, Molokai on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017 at approximately 10:43 p.m.

Police say a 2013 Kia multi-purpose vehicle was traveling east on Kaula Road when it veered off the roadway, collided into a rock embankment and flipped over before coming to rest on the passenger-side.

The lone male operator was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the operator has not been released pending positive identification and notification of next-of-kin.

The involvement of speed, drugs and alcohol are still pending as the investigation is on-going.

This is Maui County’s first traffic fatality for 2017 as compared to none the same time last year.  A separate fatality was reported the following day, also on Molokaʻi, claiming the life of a 36-year-old Molokaʻi man.
