Kekaulike Kicks Off First Round Play in Boys Soccer State Championships

Update:  Pearl City defeated King Kekaulike, 2-1 (2OT) on Friday night on Maui, ending the season for Nā Aliʻi.  Pear City scored at 5 minutes and 96 minutes.  King Kekaulike (9-3-1) had one goal scored by Dylan Gomes at 18:00 into the game. 

Maui’s King Kekaulike is scheduled to play Pearl City at 6:30 p.m. tonight (Monday, Feb. 6, 2017) at their home field as the first round of the 12-team Division I bracket gets underway in the Queen’s Medical Center Boys Soccer State Championships.

A new format adopted this past summer gives the runner‐up from each league the benefit of hosting the first‐round match on their respective home fields. The winner of these matches move on to the remaining three‐day tournament at Waipiʻo Peninsula Soccer Complex on Oʻahu, continuing Thursday, Feb. 9 through Saturday, Feb. 11. The losers will end their season.

The Division II will remain the traditional three‐day, eight‐team tournament format with all matches being played at Waipiʻo Peninsula Soccer Complex on Oʻahu, Feb. 9‐11.

PLAY‐IN MATCH: OIA third place Waiʻanae plays BIIF third place Makua Lani for the final spot in the Division II state tournament. That match takes place Monday, Feb. 6, 4 p.m. at Kealakehe High School on the Big Island.

Division I MIL:
1. Baldwin Bears (9‐0‐3): #3 Baldwin will play the winner of tonight’s game between Mililani and Campbell, at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017 at the Main Stadium of the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex on ‘Oahu.
2. King Kekaulike Na Ali‘i (9‐2‐1): King Kekaulike is scheduled to play Pearl City at 6:30 p.m. tonight (Monday, Feb. 6, 2017 at home on Maui.

1. Seabury Spartans (1‐9‐1): Seabury will play #4 Kailua on Field 10 at 3 p.m. on Thursday Feb. 9, 2017.
