$1.8 M Stabilization Project Begins at ʻĪao Valley State Monument
A $1.8 million slope stabilization and repair project begins today at ʻĪao Valley State Monument.
Crews will spend the next 150 days working to stabilize the significantly eroded and unstable slopes along the valley’s access road and parking area caused by a severe flood that occurred on September 13, 2016.
The park has been closed since last fall, but State Parks Administrator Curt Cottrell says it is the department’s goal to reopen the monument to modified public access sometime this summer.
The current project contract was awarded to Maui Kupono Builders, LLC.
State officials note that weather events could result in unexpected delays.
